Oil and Forex Trading

By Ahmad Hassam

Wall Street watches oil prices like a hawk. Remember the early part of 2008 when oil prices skyrocketed from near $70 to almost $150 within a few months. This was more than a 100% increase in oil prices. Many hedge funds heavily betted on the increase in oil prices and made a windfall.

Most of the increase in the oil prices was due to speculation. When the stock markets crashed, most of the hedge funds had to liquidate their investments in oil futures. The prices came down. The prices are down due to low consumer demand in a recession. But it is being predicted that with a recovery in the economy, the oil prices will go up again.

As oil prices go up, consumers are forced to spend more on oil. The more they spend on oil, the less they can spend on other products. The less they spend on other products, the less profit companies make. Declining profits made by these companies mean declining stock prices.

The opposite is also true. The less the oil prices become, the more Wall Street becomes optimistic about the profit potential of companies. This increased optimism leads to increase in stock prices. Two large futures exchanges are used to determine the prices of oil. They are the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYME) and the International Petroleum Exchange (IPE).

Historical studies show rising oil prices have been associated with falling stock markets. NYME is where most of the crude oil futures in the world are traded. By monitoring the prices of crude oil futures in NYME, you can develop a feel of the US economy. Since oil is heavily traded globally in US Dollar, this affects the US Dollar. The net effect of oil prices on US Dollar is however a bit complicated.

Lets take a look at it more closely to understand the two effects that pull USD with oil. When oil prices increase, the demand for US Dollar also increases. Most of the countries need US Dollar to pay for their oil imports. High demand for US Dollar means that it should appreciate.

But this is not the whole story. Increased oil prices also take its toll on the US economy. The question is which effect is more important for the forex markets.

The effect varies from one currency pair to another currency pair. If you are watching a currency that involves the USD and a currency representing a country that does well during the times of high oil prices like Canada that has huge oil reserves after Saudi Arabia, the effect would be drop in the value of USD/CAD pair. US imports more oil from Canada than any other country. If you are watching a currency pair that involves USD and a currency whose economy is hampered by the rising oil prices, the demand for USD will rise.

So what we can say is that some currencies have positive correlation with oil prices and other currencies have negative correlation with rising oil prices. The currency pair CAD/JPY shows the strongest reaction to rising oil prices. Japan imports almost 100% oil.

When oil prices are going to rise again, watch for CAD/JPY currency pair. CAD is positively correlated with oil prices and JPY is negatively correlated. So CAD/JPY has the strongest reaction to rise in oil prices. It can be a very good currency pair to trade during times of rising oil prices. - 23162

The Growing Market of Pembroke Pines Real Estate

By James Coglin

Just like the rest of the country, the Pembroke Pines real estate market has too taken its hit during this economic downturn. With respect to the size of other cities around the country, Pembroke Pines is relatively small with 146,000 locals. Since the city was only just incorporated back in 1960 it is still a considered to be a young city in terms of years when compared to others in the area. And during this recession, the city has actually maintained above average real estate prices. The residents of Pembroke Pines will most likely see a population rise as well as an increase in real estate.

Pembroke Pines real estate is much higher than the national average. Obtaining an average for the real estate market is difficult because of how the economy affects each area differently. Although, a range of $175,000 and $225,000 can be arrived at using the national averages. What's amazing is that the Pembroke Pines real estate goes for $385,000! This is roughly double the national average. The real estate in Pembroke Pines consists of single family homes, townhomes, condos, as well as commercial real estate and land.

If you are looking for real estate in Pembroke Pines then you will want to focus on such areas as Breakers Estates, Chapel Trail, and Victoria Lakes. The Pembroke Pines real estate market is doing decent and consumers that are planning on moving to the area will be impressed by the city.

The Pembroke Pines real estate market is in decent shape which should help calm consumers fears. However, due to the current recession the number of foreclosures has doubled. Even with this fact consumers can rest easy knowing that the commercial real estate sector is still strong. In fact, the real estate in the commercial sector has been growing rather than declining. In turn, the city's economy has grown as well. And with this local growth in the economy, the Pembroke Pines real estate market, as a whole, has started growing again.

If you are a real estate investor or a consumer looking for property you will find it profitable to invest in the area as the recent foreclosures have caused some properties to reduce in price. This strong trend is expected to continue and real estate investors should look hard at the opportunities that have presented themselves. Opportunists should seek Pembroke Pines real estate.

Further evidence supports the fact that the city will continue to grow both in size and real estate market due to its location. It is in great demand as it is only 15 miles from both Miami and Fort Lauderdale. Many people want to live in the Miami area, but they do not want to live in downtown. This in turn makes Pembroke Pines to be highly desirable since it is smaller but still a short drive to the night life. And being the largest city with respect to land size in the area, there's plenty of room to expand. So if you are considering investing in the Miami area, then be sure to check out the Pembroke Pines real estate market. - 23162

Real Estate Investing And The Human Animal

By Doc Schmyz

How come anytime you walk in to a book store and find your way to the business or financial books all the views that are expressed in the titles are very similar??? In one way or another they all call out for a monetary version of bloodshed. I mean think about the titles: "How you can crush the other guy"or "it's not personal its business", "How to come out on top" etc etc. When I got into the real estate investment game I spent hours trying to find the one book that would teach me how to become that REAL ESTATE INVESTING GOD I knew I could become. After reading most of the popular books at the time I actually would feel beat up over the content. I mean did I have to be a "take no prisoners" type of investor? Did I have to prey on some one else's misfortune?? The answer was no. So I set out to build a list of my own investment rules. I think we each should have our own set of investment rules. Doc's Rules for investing:

1) Set up personal guidelines: Define and follow your personal guidelines. This is the most important rule I have. My guidelines define the investments I will go after as well as the amount of investment I'm willing to part with to get it. It outlines my investment strategy as well as how I want to conduct my investment business. Things to include, but not limit you to, are: Top dollar amount and lowest dollar amount. Type of investment you want to deal with. Period of term for investment.. Etc etc. (Between you and me I even have a guideline about the amount of time I will work per-day)

2) Remember a family is behind the deal you're working on. Simply put, whoever you are dealing with has mouths to feed. Just because you can get a great deal on a house because the current owner is in a facing some sort of adversity that is causing them to sell below market value, DOES NOT give you license to kick them when they are down. Treat everyone with dignity and respect. If the price they are offering still falls within the personal investing guidelines you have set for yourself ,don't use your position to abuse the seller. If you?re getting the house for .40 cents on the dollar, don't be a jerk and push for .20 cents. Always remember...it could be you in the sellers postion. (This rule DOES NOT come in to play when dealing with a bank owned property)

3) Always ask for what you want. No where does it say you can't ask for something in an investment deal you like, I.E. if you're looking at a piece of real estate with a pool, ask the seller if they would be willing to throw in new carpet to the sale. I once met a investor who was looking at a house that had been on the market for more than 6 months. When he went to talk to the seller he happen to see a 1954 Merc Coupe in the garage, so he asked if it was included in the deal. The deal eventually closed for the house AND the car. 4) Offer everyone the chance to make money as a bird dog for you. I always give several of my business cards to anyone I do business with and offer them a portion of any profit I make from any investments they help me locate. You would be amazed at how many people are willing to help you make money when they get a small part of it for doing very little work. (And if you follow rule #2 you will be amazed at how many of those bird dogs will sing your praises from the highest mountains)

These are just some ideas of things to keep in mind when you're working on your investment mindset. These rules have worked well for me over the years, and in more cases then not, have gotten me more return and repeat networking opportunities then I can count. - 23162
